As Clairee Belcher astutely proclaimed in the film Steel Magnolias, "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize."
And at Madcap Cottage, we couldn't agree more!
John and Jason Oliver have curated a collection of far-flung home decor treasures that will give your home just the right amount of timeless flair.
Says John, "You never want your home to look like you bought all of your accessories at someplace like, dear god, Home Goods. Think accessories that deliver a feeling of being accumulated over time and upon your myriad travels. Use accessories to help tell your own personal brand story."
Blossoms, dearie!
You can never have enough fresh, just-picked florals in your home. Case in point, the timeless, prints-packed living room at the schoolhouse-turned-cottage in New York's glorious Catskills Mountains that served as our escape from the grit and grime of New York City. While the home was tiny, the exuberant use of prints--especially florals--tricked the eye and made the rooms seem that much larger.
Says John, "Florals bring the great outdoors within and work in any setting--from a historic cottage to an industrial-style urban loft that needs 'softening' from the harsh edges and angles."
Notes Jason Oliver, "The best thing about florals is that they will make you happy. No one ever remembers a beige room."
