In 2014, John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon packed up their Brooklyn, New York life and headed south to North Carolina with their posse of pound-rescue pups in tow.
Notes Jason Oliver, “John and I had a great twenty-five-year run in New York City, but it was time for new adventures and new storylines. The beautiful south seemed like the perfect next step in our unexpected trajectory. We were ready to spread our wings.”
Says John, “Jason Oliver and I were magazine editors and television producers in the bright lights, big city, but we eventually segued into the world of interior design. We became known for our spirited use of prints and patterns. And we had success! Our first design project ended up in the pages of O at Home, Oprah’s one-time home magazine, and we were humbled that House Beautiful magazine soon named us two of America’s top interior designers under the age of 40. But we wanted to not only design homes but to create our own product lines from scratch.”
Fast forward and now happily ensconced in headquarters housed within a former radio station in up-and-coming Thomasville, North Carolina, the Madcap gents (along with pups Weenie, Cecil, George, and Beau) sketch and paint the patterns and designs that the duo then translates into a range of whimsical home products—all inspired by travel, history, traditions, vintage movies, spirited dinner parties, and heaps of shenanigans.
Think fabric. Wallpaper. Lighting. Rugs. Furniture. Trim. Home accessories. And so much more.
At Madcap Cottage a premium is put on “made in America” and “custom.”
Says John, “Not only do we print our fabrics and wallpapers to order in North Carolina, but we can custom-color and rescale any of our patterns. Same with our furniture. And we also offer custom workshop capabilities should you want bespoke window treatments, bedding, table linens, or any other creations crafted with Madcap Cottage fabrics. We are very, very nimble. Plus, we hope to always deliver exceptional customer service in this impersonal, often-uncaring world.”
Notes Jason Oliver, "We create interiors and products that are timeless, fresh, and fun and all based upon our original sketches. Celebrate prints and patterns. After all, no one remembers a beige room."
