Vintage Fretwork-Backed Otto Zenke Chinoiserie Bench

We are mad, mad, mad for the work of the late design superstar Otto Zenke who was based in Greensboro, North Carolina but worked on projects around the world. Sadly, Zenke’s name is not as well known as it should be. John and I have a serious case of Zenkemania and collect vintage pieces that hail from the Otto Zenke studios such as this amazing wood Chippendale-style bench that we found at an estate sale a few years back. The bench was downtrodden and damaged and had a ripped-up upholstery for the seat. We cleaned her up, repaired the damage, and reupholstered the little lady’s tight seat in the Madcap Cottage linen-cotton Old Peking fabric in Ocean. The result is a new classic. Perfect for a hallway or foyer or perch her at the foot of a bed.
