In Living Color!

By January 8, 2019Diary

Hello from the road!

John and I are zipping all over the country for the next few weeks to attend various home markets (Atlanta, Dallas, and Las Vegas) as well as to speak at several Marketplace Events home shows (from Indianapolis to Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Buffalo). I have just wrapped up a photo shoot at a home that we designed in wonderful Sarasota, Florida that will appear in the glossy pages of the Summer issue of Cottages & Bungalows magazine and am en route to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia to participate in the unveiling of the new Calico Corners outpost on King Street. And that’s how the Madcap gents roll…

Whew! But lots of fun to meet and greet and see cities that we haven’t perhaps visited before.

Meanwhile, several of you had asked to see full-color images of the black-and-white shots of the House of Bedlam that I had published last week.

So, here you go!

And which do you prefer, the black and white or the color?

John and I get colorful in front of the House of Bedlam, our 1930s-era Regency-style home in High Point, North Carolina.

The hand-painted foyer at the House of Bedlam that nods to the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, England with its tented whimsy and Chinoiserie influences.

House of Bedlam Living Room

With its custom Gracie Studio wallpaper and antique Nichols rug, the House of Bedlam is a cool, chic oasis that sees lots of cocktail parties.

Awash with Madcap Cottage fabrics, the House of Bedlam sun room is a light-filled airy space that invites a cool glass of wine and the reading of “Crazy Rich Asians.”

Sadly sans the pugs, this vintage bench was designed by legendary California designer Michael Taylor and was purchased at auction. John and I recovered the piece in a rich velvet but recycled the fabulous trim.

Oh my hat, colour colour colour is the way to go. Black and white does have a 1930s romance about it, but this is 2019! Colour is LIFE. Love your style BECAUSE of the colour X

Your house is so pretty. Although I am sixty four years old, I am always trying to learn something new. Soon I will send you some of the pictures of my house. I love Chinoiserie very much. Thank you for giving us those ideas.
