How to Measure for a Dining Room Rug

John and I recently launched the Madcap Cottage for Momeni rug collection, and we love the gorgeous assortment in the range—from indoor-outdoor to wool, scatter rugs, runners, and more. Last week we discussed how to measure for a rug in the bedroom. This week, let’s discuss rugs for the dining room.

  1. All Legs on the Rug!

If you choose a rectangular rug for your dining room (perhaps the Madcap Cottage for Momeni Road to Canton stunner in Ivory or Blue), make sure that the legs of all dining chairs remain on the rug when the chairs are pushed away from the table. We like to go up to 36” away from the table with rugs to provide plenty of room for the chairs and a visually pleasing look. Nota Bene: If your dining room table has leaves, be sure to account for that extra space when you consider the size of your rectangular rug.

2. All Legs on the Round Rug

Again, all dining chair legs should sit upon the round rug when the chairs are pushed away from the table. Nota Bene: If your dining room table has leaves, be sure to account for that extra space when you consider the size of your round rug.
