John and I are thrilled to have recently launched the Madcap Cottage for Momeni rug collection, so be sure to check out our range—from indoor-outdoor to wool, scatter rugs, runners, and more. With that said, folks always ask me and John how to measure for a rug. And that’s a great question.
So this week, let’s talk about measuring for rugs in a bedroom.
1. All Legs on the Rug
If you are looking for a larger rug, a good rule of thumb is to make sure that the rug in question runs under all of the accompanying furnishings—the bed, nightstands, and bench at the foot of the bed, for instance. At the very least, have the rug extend 18” to 24” inches past the edge of the bed.
2. 2/3 of the Bed on the Rug
In this instance, the rug doesn’t fall under the nightstands but still allows for some 18” to 24” of rug to extend on the sides of the bed and at the foot. An 8’x10’ rug is great for a queen bed and go for a 9’x12’ for a king.
3. Scatter Rugs or Runners on Each Side
John and I are mad for the Madcap Cottage scatter rugs and runners for Momeni, and they make a wonderful and very affordable option to a larger rug in the bedroom. Remember that the scatter rug or runner shouldn’t extend beyond the bed but should be a bit wider than your nightstand.
