Cocktails by Design Behind the Scenes with Madcap Cottage

Gang:

John and I have started a monthly installment on the Madcap Cottage Instagram Live feed called “Cocktails by Design with Madcap Cottage,” and during each 45-minute run we talk about a great liquor brand and offer a Madcap design lesson. Cocktails AND design–what could be better?! We also make a great cocktail recipe at around the halfway point and get a little boozy… And we take questions from our friends on Instagram–and that’s probably the best part!

For example, in the first “Cocktails by Design” installment John and I crafted an amazing Hot Toddy with Four Roses Bourbon and talked about how antiques are essentials in interiors.

This past week–just before Christmas–John and I discussed holiday decorating and paired Balsam Hill Christmas trees with a spirited Cranberry Fizz cocktail crafted of incredible Whitley Neill gin. John discussed why we are mad for Balsam Hill, and we learned more about English-crafted Whitley Neill gin and their myriad, exceptional flavors such as blood orange and pink grapefruit.

Such fun, and we have had such a great response to the series. Lots more to come!

In case you want the Cranberry Fizz recipe from our most recent “Cocktails by Design,” here you go:

1 part Whitley Neill gin

2 parts cranberry juice

1 part Prosecco

Build the cocktail in a highball glass, and garnish with cranberries. The libation couldn’t be any easier and so festive and delicious!

Part 1-Getting Ready

Cocktails by design

The dogs are part of everything with do at Madcap Cottage–including our “Cocktails by Design” Instagram Live segments. Here, pound-rescue pugs Weenie and Cecil get ready for the festivities to kick off in the House of Bedlam living room. Be sure to follow Weenie on Instagram at @meetweenie.

John and I are mad for 8th-generation Whitley Neill gin–and we are also crazy for the amazingly realistic Christmas trees from our friends at Balsam Hill. Both are essentials at the House of Bedlam.

John preps the Cranberry Fizz cocktail in the House of Bedlam kitchen. So easy, so chic!

Before we go live on Instagram, John and I discuss the run of show with the Madcap Cottage team. Weenie seems distracted.

Part 2-Live on Instagram

And we are live! and talking about holiday-decor essentials.

John shows off the House of Bedlam Balsam Hill Christmas tree and discusses how to dress a tree. A few tips: Hang ornaments from the outside in; mix collections; and hang about 100 lights for every foot of tree. Better yet, purchase a pre-lit Christmas tree.

John shows us to make a knockout Cranberry Fizz loaded with Whitley Neill gin, cranberry juice, and Prosecco. Simple and chic.

Pour, stir, and voila! Cocktails are served. A Cranberry Fizz will work wonders at holiday gatherings.

Here I am in a vintage red sport coat sampling a Cranberry Fizz.

Pound-rescue Boston terrier George gives the Cranberry Fizz a stink eye. You have to watch George with cocktails–he likes to sip them up.

And we are back on the sofa in the House of Bedlam living room talking about more interior-design tricks.

And with that, another successful installment of Cocktails by Design wraps up.

Until Next Time…

My daughters and I joined in this event and had a great time! Loved seeing your Christmas decorations. We mixed up our own cocktails and made a lovely evening of it! We can’t wait for the next installment! So much inspiration.
